
Chapter Membership Chairperson Tyler Medlin and Chapter
President Tom Slymon attended the NCPBA State Meeting in
Hendersonville, NC on November 6, 2010. In the morning
session of the meeting a review of the minutes of the
last meeting were approved. In addition, Reports from
the SSPBA Membership, Legal, Financial, and
Communication Departments were provided by the staff at
the meeting from Atlanta. The membership report
included news of increased membership throughout the
southeast. Attendees were also informed of possible new
trends in personnel law that could affect members and
were given a preview of revamped PBA websites. Before
breaking for lunch there was discussion of upcoming
legislative goals based on the comments of members.
The afternoon session discussed the Police Benevolent
Foundation arm of the PBA that provides financial
support for the survivors of fallen officers,
scholarships for higher education, disaster assistance
for officers affected by disaster, and the opportunities
for free PTSD and suicide prevention training for police
departments.
