A message from the President

Good News!  I’m proud to announce that as of January 2009, the North Carolina Correctional Chapter of the NCPBA along with other state LEO agencies are officially set for payroll deduction within the Beacon/Payroll system.  Now before you start saying harsh and other unspeakable comments about Beacon; hear me out. The North Carolina PBA has been working extremely hard and diligently to make this event actual.  We have faced opposition and false promises over these past years.  They have said things about us that weren’t true and wanted you to hear fiction instead of the facts. What our adversaries failed to realize is that each and every day you as members continued to show your professionalism, strength and courage to weather their storms. We stayed focused on our mission in serving our members in a professional manner while seeking equity and fairness.  This reflects in our legal defense and representation for our officers. We are the voice for improving the quality of work, safety, and other issues facing correctional and probation officers within the state of North Carolina. What we have achieved through our members, the association, the legislative lobbying and representation is a professional recognition of being the only law enforcement association to receive this status. When I look at the agency and statewide codes, I see North Carolina Police Benevolent Association. State legislators believe in us and what we do for our members. They know that we are about making a positive difference for law enforcement, correctional, and probation officers in North Carolina.  In reference to Beacon, it’s just another storm. The question is, does personnel get the right information to Beacon?

I want to personally thank every member and officer who has worked on this issue over the past several years.  We are at this point because you didn’t waver from your mission and commitment to NCPBA.  To my chapter board; you have shown the tenacity, hard work and commitment in making payroll deduction possible for each and every one of us.  This is just the beginning.

To our current and future members; “anything worth having is worth the sacrifice.” It is time for us to go forward not back. It is not a time to give up, settle or be satisfied. We will have adversaries, so let’s face them. They are those that would prefer we stay in the closet. They are afraid because our foundation is solid and we are about doing what is right for our members. Know your history and facts about NCPBA.  Don’t let your adversaries devalue it!  Be proud that you are members. You have earned it!  A great day is coming and there are more breakthroughs around the corner. I encourage each and every officer to become a member and be a part of this history. Together we can make a difference in Raleigh. Together we can do this!
