Legislative Update:
Monday, April 2, 2007

As anticipated, the House 25 Year Retirement bill for law enforcement officers emerged this past week in the General Assembly.

25 Year Retirement for Law Enforcement Officers

Companion bill to SB 1444, House Bill 1114– Law Officers’ 25 Year Retirement
was introduced with Primary Sponsor (s): Rick Glazier, Tim Moore, Marian McLawhorn, Debbie Clary, and 25 other House co-sponsors.

The Disability Retirement Provision (Loophole) bill, which was added to PBA’s legislative agenda last week by a vote of the North Carolina Division Board of Directors, is expected to be introduced this week by Representative Ty Harrell at PBA’s request.

Bad news to report in the Senate.

Two of PBA’s due process bills SB 980 sponsored by Julia Boseman and Janet Cowell and SB 1396 sponsored by Don East and Doug Berger were sent to the Rules committee, where bills go to die.

A Capwiz alert is being prepared which will advise all members to take a specific action to help get these bills out of the Rules Committee and get the proper hearing they deserve.

Stay tuned.
