Legislation to Remove Restrictions of LEO disability benefits introduced

PBA bills have been introduced on the House and Senate Side and referred to committees. HB 538 and SB 443 would close the disability loophole for first year officers. Currently, if a rookie officer becomes seriously injured in the line of duty and has to medically retire he/she is not covered by a disability provision under the retirement system. Officers after their first year are covered. This legislation seeks to close that loophole. Please call the House or Senate member in the General Assembly that represents you and ask them to support these bills.
