HB 271 Probation Officer/ No Concealed Carry Required
Primary Sponsors: Guice, Horn, Ingle & Faircloth
Led by PBA endorsed Representative David Guice, HB 271 provides that
state
certified probation and parole officers would no longer have to apply
for a concealed weapons permit in order to carry concealed while off
duty.
Moments ago, HB 271 passed the House on 2nd and 3rd reading on May 12,
2011.
As you recall, Representative Guice, a retired probation officer, met
with our North Carolina Division Board of Directors at our last state
board meeting to personally express his thanks for our support and his
commitment to support our legislation issues. HB 271 passed the House
before the cross over deadline of June 9, 2011, ensuring that the bill
will remain alive into the short session should the bill not be
addressed by the Senate this session. The more likely prospect is that
the Senate will take up the bill next week. If passed by the Senate and
not vetoed by the Governor, HB 271 will become effective December 2011.
HB 202 / SB 664 Law Enforcement Fairness Act, HB 538 / SB 443 Remove
Restrictions/LEO Disability Benefits and HB 696 Assault on LEO
Inflicting Bodily Injury all remain active during this session.
We will keep you posted!
