Eastern Coastal Chapter Holds Candidate Screening

The Eastern Coastal Chapter of the North Carolina Police Benevolent Association recently hosted candidate interviews for those seeking election to the Greenville City Council and Greenville City Mayor. The North Carolina Police Benevolent Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving officers working for public law enforcement agencies in North Carolina. The North Carolina Police Benevolent Association has been actively involved in North Carolina since 1986 and has worked with numerous officials at the local, state, and federal level to develop positive and meaningful relationships. Through these relationships a solid foundation of understanding has been built that has led to many improvements for officers and the law enforcement profession. On August 27, 2009, candidates for Mayor and City Council met with a screening committee to discuss issues that help to attract and retain the best and brightest possible candidates to the law enforcement profession. These issues include 25 year retirement for law enforcement officers, due process for municipal law enforcement officers, and the expansion of disability retirement benefits for officers who become seriously injured in their first year of duty and have to medically retire. Future opportunities for the PBA to meet with elected officials on matters of public concern was also part of the discussion. Based on the screening committee's recommendations the Eastern Coastal chapter Board of Directors voted to endorse the following candidates in the October 6th election. The endorsements are as follows: Minnie Anderson for Mayor, Mildred Council for District 1 and Howard Stearn for District 3.
