Cary Town Council Member Mike Joyce Announces his Resignation at Cary Chapter Meeting

On July 13, 2006 Cary Town Council member Mike Joyce announced his resignation at the monthly Cary Chapter meeting.  In announcing his decision Mike gave both his personal and professional reasons for resigning to those in attendance.

Mike is an interesting individual who had much inspiration for his outreach to police officers and the PBA.   Mike grew up as a poor kid in subsidized housing in Nashua, New Hampshire.  Along the way he was befriended by police officers and participated in the Police Activities League.  This was a catalyst for Mike’s life.   He was committed that if ever given the chance that he would give back to the police profession to show his eternal appreciation.   Mike was able to do this as a Citizen’s Police Academy graduate and a Citizens Assisting Police volunteer.   He also organized an event that had high school juniors and seniors play against police officers in an annual sportsmanship basketball game.  This event was always well received and became a great source of relationship building between youth and police officers.

In August of 2003, Mike sought and received the PBA endorsement in his race for an At-Large Town Council seat.  He was endorsed and won his race to go on the council.  During his tenure on the Cary Town Council, he worked tirelessly to start a Police K-9 program and to ensure the provision of health insurance for officers seriously injured in the line of duty. His efforts also led to an appropriate policy change in addressing the separation allowance for retired officers.

The Cary Chapter membership wished him the best in his future endeavors and thanked him for a job well done.
