Cary Chapter Hosts Candidate Interviews for Cary Town Council

Endorsements of Candidates for October Elections Forthcoming

The Cary chapter of the North Carolina Police Benevolent Association recently hosted candidate interviews for those seeking election/re-election to the Cary Town Council. On August 3, 2009, candidates for District A, District C, and an At-large race met with a screening committee to discuss issues that help to attract and retain the best and brightest possible candidates to the law enforcement profession.

These issues include 25 year retirement for law enforcement officers, due process for municipal law enforcement officers, and the expansion of disability retirement benefits for officers who become seriously injured in their first year of duty and have to medically retire. Other questions concentrated on cost effective benefit enhancements for Town of Cary employees and changes to the Town of Cary Personnel Ordinance. Future opportunities for the PBA to meet with elected officials and the town manager on matters of public concern was also part of the discussion. The Cary chapter Board of Directors will evaluate the candidate interviews and will be voting on endorsements for the October elections.
