Cary Chapter to host Leadership Training

The Cary Chapter will be conducting Leadership Training on Monday, June 19th at the Courtyard by Marriott from 8:30 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. The training will cover the history of the SSPBA, leading a chapter, the committee structure, political action, legal defense, and handling grievance issues.

The Cary Chapter is fortunate to have Terry Nowell from the SSPBA to conduct this training.  Terry is the Director of Training and Research.  He began his career in 1998 as a Research Associate and was promoted to the Director of Training and Research in 2004.  Terry received his Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Master in Public Administration degrees from Florida State University.

Prior to be employed with SSPBA, Terry spent 22 years in local law enforcement and retired as a Captain.  Much of his law enforcement career was spent working with the Patrol Division and as a Commander of the SWAT team.  While in law enforcement, he received over 1000 hours of specialized training.  He’s a certified law enforcement instructor in two states and recognized as a subject matter expert.

Terry’s experience with law enforcement associations is vast.  He was an elected PBA Chapter President, and served on the local PBA board of Directors for approximately 15 years.  Terry was also elected to the Board of Directors for the Florida PBA.  He has negotiated numerous law enforcement contracts with several municipalities in north Florida.  He has also lobbied in the legislatures for the states of Florida and Georgia.  Terry also served as the second Executive Director for the PBA of Georgia.

This training provides an opportunity for those members who want to become more involved or who may seek a future board seat.   Elections for a new board will be held later this year.  The training is open to all members and lunch will be provided.   (6/6)
