In August of 2003, Nels Roseland sought
and received the PBA endorsement in his re-election bid for the District B seat
on the Cary town council. He was endorsed and won his race to return to his seat
on the town council. During the next four years on the Cary town council, he
supported issues that were important to Cary members to include bringing a
police
K-9
program to the agency and a
policy provision to provide health insurance for town employees seriously
injured in the line of duty who retire because of the injury. Roseland was also
an advocate for expanding police resources through additional personnel and
equipment throughout his council career.
Roseland was born in Melbourne, Florida and attended the
University of Central Florida
and the Florida State University.
He has a Masters Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in
Political Science and Business Administration. He currently works as a Deputy
Chief of Staff and Chief Financial Officer for the North Carolina Department of
Justice and the Attorney General. He and his wife Julie live in Cary with their
two children. They attend
St. Michael’s Catholic
Church. Roseland served two terms on the Cary town council before leaving
office in 2007.
Roseland was recognized for his commitment to law enforcement by the Cary
chapter as part of the 2nd Annual “George Almond” Officer of the Year event on
March 15, 2008. He was presented a plaque on behalf of the membership by Cary
chapter President Randy Byrd and retired Detective George Almond. In presenting
the plaque Byrd read the inscription that summed up the chapter’s appreciation:
“This plaque is presented in appreciation of your dedicated and loyal support of
the Cary Police Department and the Cary Chapter of the North Carolina Police
Benevolent Association. Your tireless efforts have improved the quality of life
for both active and retired officers. On behalf of the Cary Chapter of the North
Carolina PBA, we offer our best wishes for your success in future endeavors, and
we thank you for a job well done.” According to Roseland, “Receiving this award
from the PBA is an incredible honor. To be recognized by Cary law enforcement
professionals who care so much and work so hard to make sure Cary remains the
safest city in the southeast is something I will never forget.” |
