Crystal McDuffie is recognized as Communications Center Supervisor of the Year
Cary Chapter PBA Member Receives Award at Annual Conference

Crystal McDuffie was honored as Communications Center Supervisor of the Year by the NC Chapter of the National Emergency Number Association on September 12, 2007. The award was presented at the annual NC NENA/APCO (National Emergency Number Association/Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials) joint conference. The event took place at Sea Trails Resort in Sunset Beach.

McDuffie was nominated by fellow Cary chapter member and Emergency Communications Officer Rick Thomas. Thomas has worked with her for five years, more recently as a fellow supervisor. In his nomination, Thomas recognized McDuffie for her abilities as a supervisor and leader. According to Thomas, “Crystal has been a great inspiration to me since I was promoted in 2006. She has taught me so much and always been there when I had a question or needed help with anything. It doesn’t matter what time of day or where she has been, if I have called her she has answered.”

Thomas also pointed to McDuffie’s dedication and passion for emergency services in his nomination. “Crystal isn’t just a supervisor; she is also our agency’s EMD coordinator, a NC Sheriffs Training and Standards school director and training specialist for all training in the communications center.”

McDuffie has been with the Town of Cary since 1996. She graduated from NC Wesleyan College with a BA in Justice Studies in 2005. When McDuffie isn’t at work in Cary she can be found working as a NC Registered EMT-P with Garner EMS or teaching BLET and EMS classes at Wake Technical Community College. She is married to Garner Police Department detective Donald McDuffie. They reside in Garner N.C.
