Cary Chapter Holds 2nd Annual PAL Game and Picnic

The Cary Chapter recently held its 2nd Annual PAL game and picnic at Bond Park in Cary. This annual event grew out of the Chapter’s sponsorship of a Senior Babe Ruth team as part of the PAL program in 2006.

The North Carolina Police Activities League Inc. (PAL) is a charitable arm of the NCPBA. PAL seeks to build a positive bond between cops and youth in various age groups. The team that was sponsored for the 2nd straight year is part of the Triangle Senior Babe Ruth League. This league provides an opportunity for players between the ages 15 to 18 throughout all of District 2 in Eastern North Carolina to participate in a challenging league and further develop their advanced skills. Character, leadership, and sportsmanship are emphasized in the Triangle Senior League. This year’s team finished with a 9-4 record and placed second in their division. The team is coached by Bob Slocum and Bill Kamszik.

Sheri Abraham who is the Cary Chapter PAL Chairperson chose to take the process a step further after the culmination of the first year of sponsorship in 2006. She thought it would be beneficial to have a picnic and softball game that would further solidify the relationships between the players and Cary Chapter members. The first year was such a success that the Cary Chapter decided to make the game and picnic an annual event. On July 29, 2007, the second annual Cary Chapter Picnic and PAL softball game was held at Bond Park in Cary. Cary Chapter members and their children played a softball game against the PAL team members and coaches. After the game, everyone participated in a picnic at the Buehler Shelter.
