Retired Senior Officer and Cary Chapter Member
Bob Hauck
was honored with a
retirement
appreciation plaque on February 9, 2006 by the
Cary Chapter. This presentation was at the conclusion of the
regular monthly meeting. Mamma Mia's Restaurant was used as an
alternative meeting location.
Bob, who officially retired from the Town of Cary on December
29, 2005, had been with the Town and also a NCPBA member for 19
years. In fact, when he retired he was the second longest
serving PBA member in the department.
Bob started his career in law enforcement in 1973 with the
Addison
Township Police Department in Oakland County, Michigan. At
the time, he was also a part-time fire fighter in the same
township. The law enforcement position only lasted a year. After
he left the department they took some federal money and hired
some officers. Bob had made the right decision to leave as a
police officer, because the police department folded in a year
when the federal money ran out. While continuing as a part-time
firefighter, Bob put himself through 300 hours of training to
become a full-time firefighter. In 1982, he moved to North
Carolina and was able to get back into law enforcement with the
Murfreesboro Police Department in
Hertford
County. In December of 1986, he came to the
Cary Police Department where he served for 19 years. During
those 19 years, he worked on patrol and was also assigned to the
Traffic Safety Unit. During his tenure with the Cary Police
Department, Bob also gave back to the community on numerous
occasions with fundraising for the
Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. He was
involved for 10 years with fundraising for that organization and
one year $15,000 was raised due in part to Bob efforts.
Bob was extremely honored by the award. He thanked the Chapter
for their efforts and encouraged members to continue to be
involved. The membership is extremely grateful for Bob's
dedication and service along with his commitment to fellow
officers. The membership also had a
cake for
Bob and numerous members attended to show their appreciation for
Bob.
