Officer
Lillian Royal, was honored as one of
five finalists for the Law Enforcement
Legion of Excellence Award by the
American Society of Industrial Security.
The award was presented at the annual
law enforcement appreciation banquet on
December 11, 2007 in Raleigh, N.C. The
banquet provides an opportunity to
enhance public-private partnerships and
to recognize law enforcement officers
who have made outstanding contributions
to their departments and communities.
The banquet was hosted by Chapter 119 of
ASIS. ASIS International is the largest organization for security professionals, with more than 35,000 members worldwide. Founded in 1955, ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing educational programs and materials that address broad security interests, such as the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits, as well as specific security topics. Officer Royal was nominated by her commander and fellow Cary chapter member, Lt. Scott Davis. The nomination centered on her handling of a call where a convenience store clerk was shot in an attempted armed robbery on January 30, 2007. Royal responded to the scene and took many actions to both secure the scene and render aid to the clerk before emergency medical personnel arrived. She also assisted emergency medical personnel with the transport of the victim to the hospital and was able to get a description of the suspect and details of the crime from him. The victim in the case survived the shooting. According to Davis, “If not for the quick response by Officer Royal to render aid to the victim along with her calming demeanor the outcome in this case may have been different.” Royal graduated from Midway High School in Spivey’s Corner in 1997. She started with the Cary Fire Department in December of 1998 before leaving to start a career in law enforcement. She attended the Coastal Plains Law Enforcement Training Center in Wilson, N.C. While in the academy, she served as the platoon leader and received the honor of Most Outstanding Cadet. Royal returned to Cary with the police department in 2004. While with Cary, she has been a crisis intervention team officer, crisis negotiation team member, and a field training officer. She currently is assigned to Platoon 3 where she also serves as the primary field investigator. Royal and her family reside in Smithfield, NC. |
