Glenn Mitchell, who is an School Resource Officer
assigned to Cary High School, was recently recognized by
Chapter
119 of the American Society of Industrial Security.
ASIS, with more than 33,000 members, is the largest
international organization for professionals responsible for
security, including managers and directors of security. This
recognition occurred December 12, 2005 as part of their Law
Enforcement Appreciation Banquet at the RBC Center. Glenn was
one of five finalists for the Officer of the Year Award.
Glenn was nominated by his supervisor, Lt. Mike Williams. In his
nomination, Williams recognized Mitchell for his many roles as a
police officer, educator, and mentor to the youth of the school.
Williams gave numerous examples of Mitchell abilities in
performing these roles throughout the nomination. He summarized
his thoughts in a couple of statements that emphasized this.
According
to Williams, “In every sense of the word, Glenn Mitchell is an
exceptional employee; he is truly a superior and rare person.
Glenn understands the importance of his role within the police
department and holds it true to his heart. In his role as a
School Resource Officer, he knows that most of the department
and the student body at
Cary
High School
look to him for leadership and
guidance.” Williams also added these comments, “Regardless of
his current task, whether is it investigating a crime on campus,
mentoring a troubled student, or overseeing a football game with
over 6,000 people in attendance, he is always calm, in control
and demanding everyone’s best efforts. Through his dedication,
professionalism, and perfectionism Glenn has won the admiration
of everyone he comes into contact with. He is the person that
everyone wants on their team.”
Glenn came to the Cary Police Department in 2000 from the
Raleigh Police Department. He became a School Resource Officer
in 2001. He also serves the department as a Defensive Tactics
Instructor. Glenn is a graduate of East Carolina University. He
and his wife live in Raleigh. |
