Member Steve Wilkins Corporal Steve Wilkins was recently named the 2006 Field Operations Employee of the Year. Steve was nominated by Lt. Joe Clifton who was his Sergeant and supervisor at the time, for his quick thinking actions as he attempted to save a life. On April 20, 2006, Officer Wilkins was on the stand testifying in a DWI case. The attorney who was questioning him suddenly collapsed. Officer Wilkins jumped from the stand to start CPR. Officer Wilkins continued CPR until EMS arrived. Despite Officer Wilkin’s efforts to resuscitate, the attorney died of a heart attack. Steve was born in Durham and grew up in Oxford. He graduated form N.C. State University with a B.A. in Sociology in 1995. He began his career with the Cary Police Department in July of 1996, after doing an internship with Cary during his senior year. While working for the police department, he has served as a patrol officer, a field training officer, and a motorcycle officer. He was promoted to corporal in 2006. Steve also serves as a member of the Honor Guard, is a crash re-constructionist, a CPR instructor, and a member of SafeKids of Wake County. Steve has been married to his wife Christina for seven years. They live with their daughter Payton in Alamance County. Steve and his wife are members of Concord United Methodist Church. In his spare time, Steve enjoys working on boats and motorcycles. He also enjoys hunting and fishing along with buying and selling stuff on the internet.
