| Sergeant Wyatt Crabtree | |
|
Wyatt is originally from Concord, California in the San Francisco Bay area. He attended and graduated from Mount Diablo High School in 1991. Wyatt served in the U.S. Army from 1991 through the end of 1995. He attended Basic Law Enforcement Training in Fayetteville and graduated in 1995. His first job in law enforcement was working undercover for the Wake County Sheriff’s office while attending Garner High School as part of Operation Check Up. In 1996, he started with the Cary Police Department. He has served as a patrol officer, a bicycle officer, a field training officer, and a school resource officer. He currently is a Sergeant assigned to Platoon 5. Wyatt also serves as the Honor Guard Commander and a member of the Emergency Response Team. Wyatt is also currently a Chief Petty Officer with the United States Coast Guard Reserve. In that capacity he has been deployed three times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His service has brought him from New York City on September 12, 2001, through Guantanamo Bay Cuba and Camp X-Ray, to the Mediterranean Theater of operations at the outset of the Iraq campaign. Wyatt is married to Dee Crabtree. They have two children; Dalton and Austen. Wyatt is a member of Salem Baptist Church. In his downtime, he enjoys playing with his children, martial arts, reading, and outdoor recreation. Wyatt is being nominated for his exemplary actions as commander of the Honor Guard. He was nominated by Capt. Don Hamilton who was his Lieutenant at the time. The Honor Guard is a specialized unit of dedicated individuals who attend funerals as representatives of the agency, along with presenting the colors as part of special events such as this one this evening. The Honor Guard serves to present the very best of the Cary Police department and takes a great deal of commitment and professionalism from those that serve on this team. Wyatt’s role requires him to schedule and coordinate all team events, along with participating in these events. Capt. Hamilton noted as an example that Wyatt had coordinated and attended the wake of a Sanford PD officer and he handled all the Honor Guard logistics for the passing of a fellow officer’s daughter in a very short period of time. Most of this was after working his normal tour of duty. According to Hamilton, “Wyatt leads by example, as he attended these events and represented the Cary Police department in a professional manner. In addition to his Honor Guard functions, Wyatt never missed a day of work and he met all of his Emergency Response team commitments.” |
