She worked as a state park ranger before joining the Cary Police Department in 1999. Sheri has worked in various assignments with the police department to include the Emergency Response Team. She currently is assigned as a Detective to the Family and Investigations Services team. Her father retired as a Lieutenant with the department. Sheri is a member of the Apex Baptist Church. Her faith is an integral part of her life. She thanks God daily for giving her a job that allows her to serve him as well as those in need. Sheri is married to Danny Abraham who is in the United States Army and who has been deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. They are expecting there first child. There are a couple of interesting things about Sheri that you may not know. She has skydived with the Golden Nights and has run in a marathon. Sheri was nominated for her actions as a patrol officer while assigned to the Field Services Division. Sheri had two nominations that brought her name forward by the nomination committee. The nominations were by Capt. Don Hamilton who served as her Lieutenant at the time and Kevin Tingen who was her Sergeant. Both of these nominations exemplified solid street police work that is at the heart of law enforcement. The nomination put forward by Capt. Hamilton highlighted a case where a pedestrian was struck with a stolen car in a parking lot to steal the victim’s purse. A radio broadcast was put out about the suspect vehicle going towards the west side of Cary. Sheri had a gut feeling that should proceed in the other direction in case the directions were wrong or if the suspect doubled back. Within seconds, Sheri noticed the vehicle and a chase ensued. Sheri remained calm and gave a clear, concise direction of travel, while maintaining the pursuit. During the chase the suspect struck another car and the stolen car was disabled. The suspect then proceeded to flee on foot, with Sheri in close pursuit. Due to her quick thinking and actions, along with accurate radio transmissions, the suspect was apprehended within minutes on top of a local motel. In the nomination, by Kevin Tingen, Sheri was recognized for following up on a routine larceny investigation that led to a search warrant in another jurisdiction. During this search warrant, police seized more than $10,000 cash along with 17.5 pounds of marijuana, 2.3 pounds of powdered cocaine, a 9 mm handgun, and nine rifles and shotguns. Two suspects were also arrested and charged with numerous offenses. If not for Sheri’s diligence with what appeared to be a minor investigation, the seizure and arrests would never have occurred.
